Over 45 years ago a small bakery opened in Ardsley (a Westchester suburb close to Manhattan) named The Riviera Pastry Shop. Since its inception, the staff of the Riviera has consistently taken pride in producing fine baked goods that have served the community through major holidays and family occasions. In 1994 husband and wife, Kaye Hansen and Peter Simon, took over ownership of the Riviera adding their own touch by renaming it the Riviera Bakehouse. Along with keeping the Riviera classics they added even more cakes, baked goods, and savory items. Kaye's baking philosophies entail that everything is baked on premises and from scratch. She uses the best ingredients: real butter, fresh eggs, rich chocolate, and fresh fruit.

Our store hours are Monday through Saturday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Riviera "Green"

We have given much thought into ways to become more environmentally sustainable. We have switched to "degradable" plastic bags (which decompose in 6 months to 2 years versus regular plastic bags which can take 100 years). We have converted 95% of our lighting to new "energy saving" fixtures, and we offer a 10 cent discount for customers using our reusable green travel mugs. However our newest and most exciting change is the installation of an 18KW Photovoltaic Electrical System. The bakery has been outfitted with 78 solar panels which will generate up to 12% of our electricity. They have been up and running since May 9, 2010! Check out below to see how much energy we have captured so far:

As of September 1, 2010 we have produced: 8321kWh (kilowatt hours)
That could power 28,643 lightbulbs or 9451 computers for one day
The environmental impact is equivalent to planting 194 trees and saving 832 gallons of gas

We hope our efforts will set an example and demonstrate what is possible right now!
